I was rather charmed by the look of seventies dancers. It inspired me to make this set, which is light and easy to use. I wore it for workshops with children as they really like the colors and the coins.
The harempants are made of an old sil sari and subsequently are falling apart as we speak. Let’s just say that dancing in a coin costume is a bit too rough for gauze silk pants. The coin belt was bought in Egypt during my first dance trip in 2007 at Mahmoud’s shop. I made the coin bra by covering a bra in gold brocade and sewing the coins like roof tiles. The Turkish vest and panel skirt are made from sari fabric that I found at our local market, I used the Turkish vest in 2014 during oneof my student recitals as we agreed to all wear something purple.
